So for our blog post using the above chart, pick one element of development under Early or Middle Adolescence and
make an argument for or against using a phone in school. Then go online
and find an article that supports or negates your position and give us a
brief summary of what the article states.
For
example: During Early Adolescence as my intellectual interests expand I
need a phone to engage more with what I'm interested in studying. The
article I found talks about how 75% of students using cell phones in
class are performing worse than those without. https://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2016/04/do-smartphones-have-a-place-in-the-classroom/480231/
Please include a link to your source in the comment as demonstrated in the example above.

During early adolescence, children should not be allowed to use their phones in school. In the chart, it says that children are highly influenced by their peers. If one kid is on the phone, others will feel pressured to do so because they think it's "cool". The phones are distracting and prevent learning. The article I saw states that phone use is highly distracting and can increase bullying. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-44546360
ReplyDeleteDuring Early Adolescence, we gain increased peer influence. So, if our peers use their phone in class, we probably will as well because of "silent" peer influence. The following article talks about how schools dropped their ban on phones, but it also mentions how influence from our peers increases the use of our phones.

It is scientifically proven that during Early Adolescence children's brains are developing the most. For example, in the article "Early Brain Development and Health", it states "Although the brain continues to develop and change into adulthood, the first 8 years can build a foundation for future learning, health and life success." If children are distracted with technology in school, then they will have a hard time learning and developing their own personalities. If kids are busy playing around with technology in and out of school, they wont be able to have the social interactions they need. Also, during Early Adolescence kids are very impressionable especially by their peers. Children may bully others about what they are posting on social media or what they are talking about that is on social media. This could cause self esteem and confidence issues that may carry on throughout the rest of their adolescence.
